Speaking at Atlanta Modern Excel User Group

September 17, 2016 By Boris Hristov Leave a Comment

As some of you may have read already, I was accepted to speak at Microsoft Ignite 2016 in Atlanta.

However, if I am going to be travelling to Atlanta, why not bring as much value to as many people as possible? That’s what obviously one more person thought – Damu Venkatesan – a friend from my previous, SQL Server, life.

Damu leads the Atlanta Modern Excel User Group and so I got an invitation to speak for the group on the evening of 28th of September.

My topic is Presentation Design For the Non-Designer and I am already looking forward to help the user group members elevate their presentation game!

Updates coming after I come back home from Ignite…

Boris Hristov

Update: Wow! Just wow! What a user group! What an audience! And what…an…event!

What actually happened a few weeks ago was a 3 hour event with 3 sessions and a lot of pizza.

The audience was so full of energy. They stayed up until the end + stayed for an additional discussion after the last presentation. I am just out of words and because of that, the only thing that I need to do is to share my slides + the resources I used, so here we go!

It’s a podcast after podcast, after podcast! This time I was invited by a friend of mine from the SQL Server community – Chris Bell to talk about my shift from the world of databases to the world of presentations and presentation design. We chatted for an hour and discussed a ton of things around what it takes to become a successful speaker and how to create stunning slides that differentiate you as a presenter. I shared quite some really practical advises, so go ahead, click the link and enjoy listening!

Madeira Podcast

Here we go again! Again?

A few months back I was invited to join my friends from MadeiraSQL – Matan Yungman and Guy Glantser as part of their podcast and this time we talked not about SQL Server! This time we focused on my new adventure – 356labs. However, the podcast turned out to be not just on presentation design and why it matters, but incredibly practical. I thought it would be really cool to share a ton of seriously practical advices and so I did!

Enjoy listening as this is probably one of my best podcasts ever!

Hangout #036 With Koen Verbeeck & Cathrine Wilhelmsen on Design

March 30, 2016 By Boris Hristov 2 Comments

The SQLHangouts – the video interview series with the SQL Server community I started 2 years ago.

Welcome to number 36 and welcome to an “episode” that’s a bit more special for both the Hangouts and me. Here’s why:

  1. This will be one of my last SQLHangout videos(both as a host and as a guest) even though I hope I will get invited again. Invited? Yeap. Read below.
  2. I decided to hand over the Hangouts to Cathrine Wilhelmsen(t|b). I am really happy she accepted as I believe she is the best person to continue the series! I just need to do that to narrow my focus on the work around 356labs.

Now back to the main topic – Koen Verbeeck(t|b), Cathrine and I discussed some great stuff around Microsoft, the upcoming release, SSIS package design and now be careful – presentation design too! Had great time and I believe you will all enjoy this one, so I hope you will spend 30 minutes with us. The recording is below and yeap, thanks everyone who made the first 35 episodes and the whole SQLHangouts idea possible! I am really happy we started this because I still believe those short videos are bringing a ton to the best tech community in the world (and my favorite one) – the SQL Server one! 🙂

Cathrine, good luck! I know you will be a great host!

Speaking at
SQLSaturday #430, Sofia

SQLSaturday_430_Sofia

Blogging about this a bit late as I am a bit busy with all of the work around 356labs – my presentation design agency. I am privileged and happy to announce that for third year in a row, I will be speaking at the local SQLSaturday event here in Sofia. I will cover the topic of Optimistic Concurrency and why if you care about the performance and scalability of your apps, you need to care about this. The session will be very demo intensive, but not only as I am planning something special for it. Just for the sake of teasing you – imagine that we will travel around 3 worlds – 3 planets – Earth, Mars and Kepler 452b. Interested in that journey? If so, see you there!

Cheers!

P.S. I will bring some Pluralsight presents with me too..

Update: Even though I was not able to come and be part of the whole event, I think Sofia and our local SQLSaturday here is just one of the best in Europe! Whenever you see more than 300 people coming and being so engaged with the content, the speakers and the other attendees that, I believe, is a receipt for a success! For those of you who were part of my session – thank you, all! It was a pleasure to see a full room of people ready to learn! My slide deck is below (for those of you who were in the room – now you can see it in it’s own full beauty) and in case you want to play with the scripts I used, you can find them here!
